Inglewood was first established in 1875, making it Calgary's oldest neighbourhood. Located in Calgary's City Centre, Inglewood is bordered by communities Bridgeland / Riverside (N), Albert Park / Radisson Heights, Southview, and Dover (E), Alyth / Bonnybrook (S), and Ramsay and Downtown East Village (W).
Within Inglewood is Pearce Estate Park, which lays alongside the Bow River and features various walking paths, picnic sites, playgrounds, and Harvie Passage Rapids- perfect for a day of kayaking or rafting along the Bow. Pearce Estate Park is also home to the Bow Habitat Visitor Station- a fish hatchery with various educational stations and programs. Also within Inglewood are the Inglewood Wildlands, and the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary & Nature Centre.
Shopping, dining, entertainment, breweries, and more can be found along Inglewoods 9 Aveune SE. Inglewood is also located a short distance from the Downtown Core, and Stephen Avenue Walk.
The Calgary Zoo is located just North of Inglewood, and offers various educational camps and programs, as well as general admission to see the indoor/outdoor animal and insect habitats, dinosaur park, and various shopping and dining throughout.
Just West of Inglewood, across the Bow River, is Fort Calgary. Previously a North-West Mounted Police (NWMP) outpost built in 1875, Fort Calgary was sold in 1914 to Grand Truck Pacific Railway, and demolished to make way for a rail terminal. In 1973 the municipal government of Calgary purchased the site and it reopened in 1978 as a historic site and museum.
Another attraction within Inglewood is the Inglewood Aquatic Centre, which features an indoor, six lane, 25 metre pool with an aquatic climbing wall and more.
